Patches

The NCCS offers programs to assist Scouts of all ages to learn more about their faith. It should be noted that these are activity patches, not religious emblems, and the Scout is therefore not eligible for the BSA religious knot.

Rosary Patch Series
The Rosary Patch Series focuses on the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary and how to pray the Rosary. All youths and adults may work on this activity and earn the patch, either individually or as a group:
  • Joyful Mysteries
  • Luminous Mysteries
  • Sorrowful Mysteries
  • Glorious Mysteries
  • How to Pray the Rosary
These involve answering bible-based questions for the mysteries patches, and there is a different set of questions for each age group. These have been used by non-Catholic Christians as well to enrich their faith, as the questions pertain to all Christian traditions. For How to Pray the Rosary, one must learn the different prayers and parts of the Rosary and recite them. Youths in grades 1-5 will recite one 5-decade Rosary, and all those older will recite the full 20-decade Rosary. Read more.
  Duty to God Patch
There are countless ways to use this patch to promote "Scouting as Youth Ministry." Diocesan and Unit Committees are not restricted by any national rules and may present them for many reasons. One example is to present it to Scouts who have given service to their parish as an acolyte, usher, youth choir member, youth camp worker, etc. Read more.

Footsteps of the American Saints
This program encourages learning about individuals that have shaped Catholicism in America. They have achieved the rank of "Saint", "Blessed", or "Venerable". Participants learn about their lives and how to relate to what they have done so that they may look to them as role models. All youths and adults may earn these patches individually or as a group.   International Awareness Recognition
The International Catholic Conference of Scouting, a world-wide organization, offers a Pin and Patch Activity Recognition for Cub Scouts, and a Medallion and Patch Activity Recognition for Boy Scouts, Venturing, and Scouters. These pins and medallions are offered to any Cub, Scout, Venturer, or Scouter in recognition for increased awareness of Scouting in the Catholic Church throughout the world. Read more.
